Overview
The resorts sit on unincorporated county land, which is why they were built there in the first place — lower taxes and looser rules than inside the city. The distances are the thing visitors misjudge: the buildings are so large that a walk between two neighbouring resorts can take twenty-five minutes, and crossing the road requires finding a pedestrian bridge. The free attractions along it — the Bellagio fountains, the Mirage volcano’s successors, the casino interiors themselves — are designed to slow you down.
Highlights
Walk it at night, when the heat has dropped and the lighting is the point. Use the monorail or the free trams between neighbouring resorts rather than walking the whole length. Fremont Street downtown is the older, cheaper and more compact alternative.
