Overview
Aerial photography found it in 1925, which is why it is named after its stone neighbour rather than by any older name — six concentric oval rings of posts inside a bank and ditch, aligned like Stonehenge on midsummer sunrise. A child’s grave was found at the centre in that excavation. The concrete markers are unlovely but honest: they show the plan at full size, which a grassy field could not.
Highlights
Come for the setting rather than the ruin: the whole Stonehenge landscape of barrows and avenues is visible from here without a ticket or a bus. Durrington Walls is the field immediately north and part of the same complex. There are no facilities of any kind.
