Overview
The island was a Japanese naval base, then the beachhead for the amphibious landing that turned the Korean War, and afterwards a working-class seaside resort for Seoul. The promenade, Wolmi Culture Street, has kept that character: viking-ship rides, disco pang pang, tents selling clams and grilled shellfish. A museum on the hill covers the landings, and a cable car now runs from the port over the water.
Highlights
Eat at the fish tents rather than the restaurants — you pick from the tank and pay by weight, and the price is posted. The sunset here faces west over the Yellow Sea, which is unusual on this coast. Come by subway to Incheon station and walk, or take the cable car from Incheon Port for the view of the container terminal.
