Overview

It opened in 1971 on the model of California’s Disneyland but larger, and the whole park sits on a raised platform with a service level underneath, so staff and deliveries never cross a guest’s line of sight. The oldest attractions — the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Carousel of Progress — are the ones that hold up, because they were built as ride-through theatre rather than around a screen. Fireworks over the castle close the day.

Highlights

Book park entry and any paid queue-skipping the moment your dates are set; nothing here can be improvised. Arrive before opening: the first hour is worth three in the afternoon. The monorail and the ferry both cross from the car park, and the ferry is the pleasanter.
