Overview

Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang set bones and made herbal medicine for both sides of the rebellion and are still venerated; their statues in the old hall are wrapped in gold leaf applied by visitors. The chedi was completed in the 1990s and its three floors are covered in murals of the Buddha’s life. Firecrackers are set off in a brick oven near the entrance when a wish is granted, which is why the temple is periodically very loud.

Highlights

Climb to the top floor of the chedi for the balcony and the view over the island’s interior. The dress code is enforced and sarongs are lent at the gate. Go on a weekday; Sunday brings Thai families in numbers and the firecracker oven runs continuously.
